anyone heard of a police force in the world that closes for business?
SINGAPORE : From next Monday(05 Apr 2004), Neighbourhood Police Posts (NPPs) will open later and closer earlier each day.
NPPs now open from 8am and shut at 11pm, but this will change to opening at noon and shutting at 10pm.
Police say this will not affect services since 75 per cent of reports at NPPs are made during the new operating hours.
They add that since the introduction of 31 Neighbourhood Police Centres in 1999, demand for services at NPPs has also fallen by 50 per cent.
Police say the reduced hours will mean that about 65 officers can be re-deployed to foot and bicycle patrols.
Assistant Superintendent Alan Tan said: “The closure of the NPP allow us to re-deploy the man who is actually sitting behind the counter down on the ground.
“During that period of time, it is also when officers can actually try to interact with the public, project more presence, creating a sense of security and confidence that the police are actually all around, that they are safe at night.”
The public can still contact the police via the Emergency Communications System outside the NPPs or use the 999 hotline in urgent situations. – CNA
today, there was a fire that burnt down a lift in some HDB estate. And for the good of all, your town council will be installing cameras in all lifts to prevent such from happening again.
So… I would guess that we have to share the cost again?!

reason? They are going to install anti-terrorism surveillance systems on the MRT, and to be fair, “commuters will have to share the cost”
I say LJ understand?! Why?
1. they have not even installed the system and they are already going to raise the fare.
2. even if they raise the fare by $0.01 per trip, and an average of 200,000 passengers per day, they would have reaped in an additional $1000 PER DAY! Lets just say that the system cost $8million, in a matter of 11 years, they would have recovered the cost. BUT THE FARE WILL NEVER EVER COME DOWN AGAIN! and mind you, the blardy calculations made above are based on 1cent increment and 200k passengers per day, which is impossibly LOW!
3. they are “REPLACING” the cameras. have they not heard of TRADING IN?! spending $8 million on 67 stations. that means that each station will have $120k to spend (taking into consideration ALL MRT stations, excluding LRTs). lets assume that each camera cost $10k (which is ridiculous) they will have an additional 12 cameras per station. BIG FUCKING JOKE! you trying to survey what? how many flies goes in and out of the station per day?
WTF?! Just when they announced that they will not be “adjusting” (aka increasing) the bus fares, and making everyone happy for a while, they are announcing this. really… WTF?!
be prepared that they will be installing cameras in your house and say that you have to pay for it because its “FOR YOUR OWN GOOD”

The existing system, which is in use since 1987, does not have recording capability. was on the MRT, which fortunately is not crowded, to work.
This woman, boarded the train and went straight leaning on one of those poles that forms a row in the middle of each cabin. So far, so good.
she then proceeds to leaning her lower body on the pole as well. ok… still ok… acceptable.
But the next thing that happens really amuses me… the pole sank right into her butt crack! and the cheeks are nearly touching each other at the other side of the pole! Now, that is yewwww!
Never, EVER will I hold the poles at that portion again. And I will make sure I will keep my son away from doing so.
